Certified Project Coordinator (CPC)

The Certified Project Coordinator (CPC) certification demonstrates to employers that a candidate has successfully demonstrated fundamental project management knowledge and skills to the standards of an independent professional association. The qualification shows that the candidate can work in the role of project coordinator as an assistant or under the direction of a project or program manager, or independently managing small, low-complexity projects with support from others.

This qualification is aimed at those new to the project management profession who may have little-to-no experience, or immigrants to Canada interested in project management who wish to earn a Canadian qualification to aid in their immigration application or to help obtain their first project management job in the country.

Requirements

To earn this certification, candidates must complete a two-stage assessment:

1. Project Management Knowledge Assessment — This online examination consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within a 90-minute time limit. Candidates will be able to use reference materials in preparing their answers (i.e. it is "open book"). Candidates will require a web browser with an Internet connection to complete the exam. Exams will be marked automatically upon their completion, and candidates will be able to immediately view their results. A score of 60% (24 questions correct out of 40) is required to pass the exam.

   The exam content breakdown is as follows:

   25%	The Project Context (charters, stakeholders, success criteria, etc.)
   25%	Requirements and Scope
   25%	Estimating, Planning and Risk
   12.5%	Project Execution
   12.5%	Project Closeout
   100%	TOTAL

    

2. Project Management Skills Assessmsent — Candidates will be asked to read a case study and then complete three project management deliverables out of a range of options, using the information provided in the case study. The completed deliverables will be submitted to PMAC for grading. This assessment stage is not timed and candidates may access external resources in the completion of these deliverables. To pass this stage, assessors must accept two of the three deliverables as meeting required quality standards.

Candidates who fail the assessments will be able to re-register (after re-paying the assessment fee). There is no limit to the number of attempts a candidate may make.

To prepare, it is highly recommended that candidates take at least 21 hours of project management training from an accredited training provider.

The Results

Upon successful completion of the assessment, candidates will receive a signed, sealed certificate as a Certified Project Coordinator from the Project Management Association of Canada. The certificate should arrive within 3-4 weeks of assessment completion. These certificates, once issued, do not expire.

Successful candidates also earn the the right to use the post-nominal letters "CPC" after their names.
